Children have less than two weeks left before returning to school, and as my own says, "The days go by too fast!" Indeed they do, and they only go quicker as the years go by. I hope you take some time to do a little self-care, play with the children, and catch up with pals.
For business owners, often time passes quickly, and it's easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day operations of the business rather than setting time aside to focus on strategic planning. FastTrac is a ten-week business program that will begin in September. Made possible through the efforts of the Newberry Downtown Development Association, this program is for all business owners and entrepreneurs, current and future. For more information, attend the session on August 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Newberry Opera House where you will hear from the instructors and be able to ask questions about the program. Space is limited, and this is a program of true value that will be held in our own community.
The second class of Leadership Newberry County will begin this fall. We will hold two informational sessions on August 9 to give an overview of the class and answer any questions for those who are interested. The first session will be held at 9:00 a.m., with the second at 5:00 p.m., both in the Chamber conference room. No need to RSVP, just show up. Space is limited for the class, so please know that voiced interest in the program does not guarantee inclusion in the program.
Newberry County Disabilities and Special Needs Board recently expanded their board room in their administration building and will hold a Ribbon Cutting for it on August 14 at 4:00 p.m. They are located at 115 Nance Street and welcome folks to attend.
Two other Ribbon Cuttings and Grand Openings are on the horizon as well, with dates yet to be set. Newberry Yoga, located at 1121 Caldwell Street in downtown Newberry, will offer complimentary classes during the month of August and begin their full schedule on September 10. Find more information at newberryyoga.com. The second business is Genesis Hub, located at 1104 Main Street in downtown Newberry. In their own words, "Genesis is a space for people to make the world better, both in their consumption, and production. Fair Trade coffee, chocolate, & groceries." I can attest that the coffee is excellent, as I have purchased a couple of different kinds.
Join us on August 16 for the Annual Mayoral Breakfast. From 7:30 until 9:00 a.m. on the second floor of Community Hall, we will hear from the mayors in the county and the exciting things they have going on in their municipalities. There is a $10 charge for this event, and you may reserve your spot by contacting us at the Chamber.
This month's Business After Hours will be sponsored by Springfield Place and JF Hawkins. The event will be held on August 23 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. at their Springfield Place location just off Wilson Road and Harrington Street at 2000 Springfield Circle in Newberry. Current and prospective members of the Chamber are welcome to attend this networking event with food and beverages.
We welcome you to visit us on the first floor of Community Hall in downtown Newberry, located at 1209 Caldwell Street. You may also contact us at 803-276-4274 or chamber@newberrycounty.org. We would welcome talking with you about the Chamber and our role in the community.
