The School District of Newberry County has approximately 5,800 students. Among the approximately 850 employees are 446 teachers and 94 instructional assistants. The student/teacher ratio in grades K-3 is about 20:1, while the other grades average 22:1.
The district has eight elementary schools, two middle schools, three high schools, one career center and a learning center. All schools are accredited by the State Department of Education and several by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Mid-Carolina Middle School is a national Blue Ribbon School.
Newberry Academy was founded in 1966 and is accredited by the South Carolina Independent School Association. Approximately 325 students are enrolled in grades K3 through 12. The student/teacher ratio is 19:1.
